Storm on the Horizon

I took this picture as we were waiting for the sun to set and the full moon to rise on August 13th. We had slight hopes that we wouldn’t have to wait for the moon to rise above the incoming storm clouds, but the clouds kept coming in well past moonrise. We had lots of fun anyways and discovered a wonderful Phoenix preserve.

A pack of coyotes were yipping and barking and howling down in the wash. Because he’s a city boy, Pete got a little anxious and started making his way back to my position. The only people we met were a father and son riding their horses.

This photo was taken from Deem Hills Recreation Area. Here’s a great blog from Katherine Darrow about the natural history of Deem Hills: http://deemhills.blogspot.com

I believe the closer mountains are the Union Hills, and the mountains in the distance still getting sunlight are the McDowell Mountains.
